How Loaded Labor Cost Is Calculated

The estimate adds the wages and expenses you enter, then divides by crew hours to show a loaded hourly cost:

Regular Wages = Workers × Regular Hours × Hourly Wage
Overtime Wages = Workers × OT Hours × Wage × Multiplier
Gross Wages = Regular Wages + Overtime Wages
Employer Burden = Gross Wages × Burden % ÷ 100
Total Labor Cost = Gross Wages + Burden + Expenses
Loaded Hourly Cost = Total Cost ÷ Total Hours

Check your assumptions: The calculator applies the burden percentage and overtime multiplier you enter. Verify those values against your payroll records before using the estimate in a bid.

Worked Example

Calculating labor for a 1-worker, 10-hour installation:

  • Workers: 1
  • Regular Hours: 10
  • Hourly Wage: $30.00 / hr
  • Overtime Hours: 0
  • Employer Burden: 20.0%
  • Additional Expenses: $0.00
Calculated Outputs:
Regular Wages = 1 × 10 × $30.00 = $300.00
Employer Burden = $300.00 × 0.20 = $60.00
Total Labor Cost = $300.00 + $60.00 = $360.00
Loaded Hourly Cost = $360.00 ÷ 10 hrs = $36.00 / hr
